Monique Wijn and René van Veelen started their adventure in august 2008 in a small village in Germany (Weenermoor), 10 km from the Dutch border. Monique is biologist & biodynamic gardener. Behind their concept of “edible landscape” (in Dutch, “de godin, eetbaar landschap”), their idea was to reintroduce in our everyday food, the necessary vitamins and minerals. They simply noticed that cheap nutritious supplements can be found just around us: from wild plants. Since then, they organised workshops on edible wild plants, forgotten crop varieties, self-sufficient life, the Transition Town concept, and permaculture on their 3.000m2.
Visitors can stay overnight, in a building renovated with ecological methods and materials such as loam, paint on basis of line oil, etc. One can also camp or stay in one of the two gypsy caravans or even a Mongols yurt.
Visitors can either use the bathroom and toilets inside the house or use the compost toilets outside as well as the outside shower. They can easily cook outside in the summer kitchen.
Wild plants & slow food: Individuals or groups (max 10) are welcome to spend 2-4 days and learn how to recognise edible wild plants in the nature, how to grow them in your own garden and how to pick/gather and cook them. All meals served are organic and vegetarian (meals also available for rawfooders).
Dates: for a weekend or 4 days. Visitors are welcome in ??? (which season).
